John was a mentor and friend. I both envied and aspired to the wonderful life he and Sandy created together, the rich relationships John nurtured and the beautiful,loving, sparkling family he was surrounded by. I worked with John for over 13 years, had the privilige of picking up the girls from the bus stop, of having John and Sandy at my wedding, of hearing his guffaws of laughter down the hall at work. John will always remain my mentor and my model of what it means to serve in the public interest and of what it takes to bring together people to make positive change. This is a crushing loss - but I hope that everyone that John, Sandy and Chase touched can take a piece of them with them and live in a way that honors the spirit of these beloved people.
